Basement waterproofing questions, answered

Plain answers for homeowners north of Columbus.

Is this a waterproofing company?

No. This site is a referral service. When you send the form, we connect you with one independent local contractor who inspects, quotes and does the work. Contractors pay us for referrals, and there's no cost to you.

Who will actually come to my house?

An independent, insured basement waterproofing contractor who serves your area. They'll introduce themselves by name. Ask for proof of insurance and references, as you would with any contractor.

Do I have to hire the contractor you refer?

No. The inspection and quote are yours to accept or decline, and you can get other quotes.

Why does my basement leak only in spring?

In spring, central Ohio's slow-draining clay soils fill up with snowmelt and rain and the water table rises. Water then pushes against the footing and seeps in at the floor-wall joint. This seasonal pattern is very common around Westerville and Delaware County.

How much does basement waterproofing cost?

It depends on the cause and the size of the job. National 2026 ranges from HomeGuide are about $6,000–$12,000 for interior systems and $10,000–$18,000 for exterior excavation. A single crack injection or a downspout and grading fix can cost much less.

Is a crack in my basement wall dangerous?

Thin vertical cracks in poured walls are usually shrinkage cracks and mostly a leak concern. Horizontal cracks, stair-step cracks in block walls, or walls that lean inward can mean soil pressure is moving the wall, so have those evaluated promptly.

Will waterproofing stop flooding from the creek?

No. Waterproofing manages groundwater and seepage. It isn't flood protection against rising surface water. If you're near Alum Creek, Big Walnut Creek or another waterway, check FEMA flood maps and ask your agent about flood insurance.

Does homeowners insurance cover a wet basement?

Often not for seepage. Sump overflow and drain backup usually need a specific water-backup endorsement. Check your own policy.

Can I cancel a contract I signed at home?

Under Ohio's Home Solicitation Sales Act, many contracts signed in your home can be cancelled within three business days. The contractor should give you a written cancellation notice.

Do I need a permit?

Sometimes. Requirements differ between Westerville, Columbus, Worthington, New Albany and the county for unincorporated areas. The contractor should tell you and pull any required permit.

What areas do you cover?

Westerville, Lewis Center and Orange Township, Worthington, New Albany, Gahanna, Galena, Sunbury and north Columbus.
